Gladiator 2 is an upcoming epic historical drama film directed by Ridley Scott and written by David Scarpa. It is a sequel to the 2000 film Gladiator, and stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, and Derek Jacobi, the last three reprising their roles.

The film will follow Lucius (Mescal), the son of Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe) and Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), who was rescued by General Maximus in the first film. Lucius is now a grown man, and he has become a gladiator himself. He seeks to avenge the death of his father and restore the Roman Republic.

Gladiator 2 is set 25 years after the events of the first film. The Roman Empire is in decline, and Lucius finds himself caught up in a power struggle between the Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and his sister Lucilla (Connie Nielsen).
